It's no secret that I'm in love with birds. I spent a couple years right out of college doing field work and every year my dad and I do a breeding bird survey in Rockbridge County, VA. Whenever I'm painting birds I'm in my happy spot. This time I decided to do things a little differently by focusing on the composition with the addition of geometric shapes.
I started by sketching out the Burrowing Owl and then I drew a triangle around it. I wanted the triangle to be somewhat subtle, so I painted around it letting it more stark in some places, blending in with the white paper in others. After that I added moths around the owl in a halo shape.
It's not done, but it's a start to something fun and different. I already have a few ideas for what I could do next.
